Why I Love December | Blogmas Days 16 & 17

Hello everyone, welcome back.

Today I have a post about why I love December so much. This is also an apology for not posting  yesterday so I’m aiming to make this quite a lengthy post to make up for it.

I love love every season in many ways and every year something changes for me about each season and each month.

First off, the change in temperature is obviously a massive one. Every morning when I leave for college at 7.15am, it is absolutely freezing and it feels like my nose will genuinely fall off from frosting! The wind is sometimes too chilly for my liking, but other times it is more of a nice, fresh wind which doesn’t make me want to run to the nearest house and cuddle up in a blanket.
At the moment in the UK, the temperature is so confusing. I think it must have been last week where the temperature around my local area was something like 13 degrees to at least 14/15, which is absolutely insane. However, that temperature didn’t really last long and dropped as soon as people started appreciating it. For me the temperature falling is great because it means I can wear big fluffy bulky coats and lovely warm jumpers and buy think scarves to basically strangle myself to make sure I’m kept warm!

I’ve had the same winter coat for about two years now because I don’t personally think its necessary to go out and buy a new coat every year just for the winter time. I love mine as it was in a massive sale where it used to be something around £30 from the F&F range in Tesco and its lasted me so long and its generally great for the winter months from October to February.

The next thing I love about December is the lights on the houses. For example, I really love warm toned lights where you can look at your Christmas Tree and really appreciate the vast difference of the temperature of your home compared to the temperature of the outside world. When I’m walking past houses where people have their Christmas tree up, I love to take a few seconds to look at it. I mainly like the warm tones because again, I just think they make you feel warm and it gives you a Christmas feel!

I don’t like icy cold lights based around cold colours – like white or light blue because they just give such a cold atmosphere and if I’m being honest, they’re uncomfortable to look at. (Personal preference – please don’t kill me if you absolutely adore icy blue white lights)

The warm drinks have to be one of my favourite things about December because you can drink as many cold drinks as you please and not feel guilty about how much tea or coffee or hot chocolate you drank that day. My personal favourite this month has definitely been buying a Mint Hot Chocolate from Costa Coffee (I get a medium size every time) and they’re £3.55 so you can’t really go wrong in all honesty. My mum also bought sachets of mint hot chocolate to try and save me from spending so much on the Costa drinks…Oops.

I think the next best thing about December has to be the festivity that appears so suddenly every year, and how fast December flies by. It is currently the 17th when I’m writing and posting this and that means there is a week until Christmas Eve and then obviously eight days until Christmas Day which is absolutely insane. This month has absolutely flown and the festivity I think has quite literally come out of no where. There are so many people doing Blogmas and Vlogmas and anything with ‘Mas’ on the end to try and make their content as festive as possible and this year I’m doing it myself and trying my very best to upload something to my blog everyday.
In the town where I live, we have a Christmas tree in the centre of town. Last year it was amazing and big and huge and impressive. This year it just looks like a bog standard pine tree someone decided to go and chop down. So – the residents of the town have tried to make that tree as festive as possible and bring some festive positivity to the little tree and its been so lovely watching people go into the town to buy baubles and tinsel and all sorts to put on the tree, and parents are contributing with their children to allow them to know the good in Christmas.

Finally, the last thing I love about December is the earlier nights and how it gets dark so much faster. For me, this means I can get home and snuggle up with a warm drink to keep me going for the night rather than being cold and having a cold drink instead of a hot one. (If that makes sense!)
When I get the bus home after a long day of college, (the bus turns up / should turn up at 4:45 and I get home around 6) getting off the bus and walking down past the local park is really quite eerie and dark and sometimes foggy and I think getting home from being in the darkness is something I love and I really don’t quite understand why. The warmth of my house always fogs my glasses up too, which shows how cold it really is outside! Even on the weekends I notice the darkness more. It is now 3:29 and I can already tell from the colour of the sky its beginning to get dark already and I’ve been up for seven hours and had seven hours of daylight since being awake. The other 9 hours left of the day will be spent in darkness. How strange.

Anyway!

At the moment, I have written 978 words so this post is getting a wee bit long and I still have a featured image to edit. Also, I just want to thank everyone for all the lovely comments I’ve received recently and all the likes on my various posts. I really appreciate it and it really gives me the motivation to carry this blog on for you all to enjoy and read.

Thank you all for reading and I hope you have a lovely last festive week before Christmas dawns on us next Sunday!

Until next time,

~Abi

Getting Braces & My Experience | Blogmas Day 12

Hello everyone welcome back,

Today I’m going to talk you through my braces experience and what I went through to get them on.

So to start, I had a consultation in about May time where I went to see my orthodontist and discuss having my braces on. I’m going to first say I don’t like my orthodontist as he was rude to me and I just overall didn’t like him much at all from first impressions. I was told I had to have four teeth out in order to have the brace fitted because otherwise the orthodontic treatment would have no effect at all. I was very hesitant about this and it took me 6 months to actually have my teeth out eventually. The experience of having my teeth out was daunting, but I’ll come to that.

Next step was to have the mould done. This was absolutely disgusting and yes, it is as bad as people make it out to be. I’m not going to sugarcoat this, I truly found it vile. You have two gum shields full of goo pushed against your top gum first and then your bottom gum afterwards to get the shape of your teeth and mouth. They hold them there for a good 10 – 15 seconds and there will be left over goo from the mould everywhere. It’s honestly not the best thing I’ve ever experienced.

After finally getting the appointments out of the way, it was finally time for me to have my teeth out. I didn’t do this as everyone else does. I used the gas and air method which was a mask which sort of looked like a snorkel around my nose which was being filled with anaesthetic to not knock me out, but make me sort of deluded, and keep me calm more than anything. The gas and air had two effects on me the two times I had my teeth out. The first time, I found myself really giddy and laughing at myself and finding it absolutely hilarious I couldn’t feel one side of my face. The second time, I was a state and it made me quite emotional and I came out of the appointment and cried lots and lots…

The ladies in there with me were absolutely lovely and made sure I was comfortable. During getting my teeth out, there was literally what everyone said there would be – lots of tugging, pulling, shoving; and that is exactly what I felt. The needles were sort of painful has the numbing anaesthetic started to kick in but the needle itself going in was just the most discomfort I’ve ever felt.

Because I didn’t want my four teeth out coming all at once, I had it done in two separate appointments hence why the gas and air had different effects.

The after effects of the teeth coming out and the numbing wearing off was very annoying. Its horrid not being able to feel your face and having to wait for it to come back with the feeling so you can start drinking normally again. I hated having to wait so long and the second time took even longer because he seemed to use quite a few syringes of the anaesthetic.

FINALLY I got to have my brace on last week (Tuesday 6th December) and it didn’t hurt at all and only ached for a few hours on and off. The worst thing about it was probably the blocks going on because of the glue they use to stick them on tasting absolutely vile. Also having the bands put in and attached was kind of painful / uncomfortable because there was a lot of force being used for me and twisting which felt like my teeth were going to fall out.

Since having my braces on, I’ve been living off skips, weetabix and jelly and thats about it until I can eat properly again.

Thank you all for reading and I hope this post was helpful to anyone having braces put on soon!

Till next time,

~Abi

My Top Vlogmas Vloggers | Blogmas Day 11

Hello everyone welcome back!

This December I have found SO many Youtubers doing Vlogmas and it’s insane, so I’ve decided to share with you my favourites!

First up is really quite obvious who now has 4, 467, 677 subscribers at the time I’m writing this and that is Zoe from More Zoella. Her content is interesting and therapeutic to watch and she does a lot of time lapses which I find really great to watch! As I’m writing this post I’m watching her Vlogmas Day 9 and she’s unboxed her PO Box and it’s insane how much she gets but back to the point; I absolutely love her content and she constantly has great videos.

YouTube Channel – MoreZoella

My next favourite vlogmas Vlogger has been Molly from Beauty Spectrum. Her vlogs have always been something I’ve watched as she daily vlogged in the summer and everyday she was doing something different with either her friends or family and I absolutely adore that. From watching Molly, she really motivates me to do things which is so so helpful!

YouTube Channel – Beauty Spectrum

The next Youtuber I’ve been obsessed with watching over the past 10 days is Jasmine Clough where she uploaded a different video every single day and there’s something different based around Christmas everyday and I’ve been loving it!

YouTube Channel – Jasmine Clough

The last youtuber I can think of is Gabbie from Velvetgh0st who vlogs on her second channel. she said she wasn’t going to do vlogmas this year but she’s actually done it everyday up to now and again she is someone who just produces interesting videos and vlogs and she has the personality just like everyone else I’ve mentioned.

YouTube Channel – Gabriella Lindley

~

I thought this would be an interesting post to do as I did vlogmas on my youtube channel last year but this year I’ve come away from my channel to dedicate my time to my blog and I absolutely love it. Let me know who your favourite blogmas bloggers and vlogmas Vloggers are! Make sure to link them!

Thankyou for reading!

For now

An Interview With Lush Leah! | Blogmas Day 10

Hello everyone welcome back!

Today I had the pleasure to interview Leah from the YouTube channel lush leah and Instagram account lush_leah.x which you can go to by clicking on the links!

This is a different sort of post but I really hope you enjoy!

Talk me (and my readers) through your YouTube career. How did lush leah begin?

Leah – Well I started with Instagram about 4 years ago! I realised I was doing pretty well with it and since videos were only 15 seconds, I felt that YouTube was the perfect way to express my opinions and my love for makeup in more detail! It was definitely one of the best decisions I’ve made with this whole social media portion of my life, I enjoy it so much!

That’s a really good idea! I probably would have done the same! Did you find your audience built gradually or did you find yourself with quite a few subscribers quite quickly?

I did gain really quickly to begin with, however since I’ve started, its been more gradual. After almost 2 years, I’m 38,700!!

That’s an incredible amount of subscribers. Did you find it was overwhelming to have such a fast following?

Yeah of course! I didn’t expect that outcome at all. If you watch my first video, I literally said I’d love to gain 200 subs(cribers) by June, which was 4 months from there I was on like 2,000!

Its insane how fast accounts grow on YouTube now and within different audiences, there’s a lot of controversy of how youtubers are in front of the camera versus how they are in real life. Do you think audiences are sometimes a bit too judgemental on a person who takes the time to sit in front of the camera?

Yeah certainly! Obviously, everyone is slightly different on camera but it’s good to stay as true to who you really are on camera, which sounds really cheesy but that’s what people like! But, you don’t know everything about the youtuber, so its unfair to judge them from their videos.

I definitely agree. Through your different social media, you have over 130,000 followers from your channel, Instagram and Snapchat and you manage to engage with them so well. Do you ever find yourself struggling to cope with this amount of people to entertain and keep your statistics maintained?

I feel like you have to balance what you want to post and what your audience wants to see. Obviously you have to keep the audience entertained – which is really hard when there’s so many people to please! But I do try to interact with everyone and get suggestions.

I love how interactive you are over Snapchat too, I loved your makeup spam this morning! 🙂 And finally… What are YouTube events like? Have you ever been to events such as Summer In The City and do you go plan to go to many more throughout the UK?

Awh thank you, I try to do them as often as possible! I’ve been to beautycon, a L’Oreal Hair event and a Lush event! They’re all so fun to meet with youtubers and get to see exciting new products! ! I’m hoping to go to Summer In The City and many others next year!

The Daily Face | Blogmas Day 4

Hello all, welcome back!

As you can tell from the title, today I’ll be walking you through my daily makeup (or at least the makeup I wore today). I did one of these a good few months ago which you can find here!

A few of the products I have mentioned before in the previous daily face post and I love the products all the same so here we go –

P R I M E R

For primer I will always stick to the Nivea Men’s Post Shave Balm because the glycerine within the product gives an amazing base for your makeup to stick to throughout the day. I have found this primer prevents creasing around my smile lines and around my nose where I tend to gather a few spots around this time of the year. You can find it in all good shops like Tesco, Superdrug and Boots all linked if you click on the shop names. It is much cheaper in Tesco at the moment! I got mine from Superdrug but I wish I had looked at Tesco first!

F O U N D A T I O N

For my foundation I have tried one out I had personally never heard anything about before. This is the Barry M Flawless Matte Foundation which was £5.99 from Superdrug and its honestly my third favourite foundation and formulation I have tried. A post will be coming tomorrow with reviews on my top 3 foundations! I love how the foundation blends and just the overall finish, and you certainly don’t need to use a powder with this foundation at all because of how matte it is. Mine is in the shade porcelain if you were wondering.

C O N C E A L E R

This concealer is the same as the one mentioned in the previous daily face post. I have recently been using the Mac Prolong Wear Concealer mainly because of its light and highlighting colour and it is perfect to wear at this time of year because I get ridiculously pale! I love it’s high coverage and formula. Mine is in the lightest shade I think (don’t quote me on that I’m really not sure) in NW15. This was £17.50 from the Mac store in my local Debenhams which I believe is £2 more expensive than it should be?!

As the foundation is matte, I didn’t need to use powder. I did however use a light transparent powder under my eyes to set in that concealer.

C O N T O U R & H I G H L I G H T &

B R O W S

For my contour I used a mix of the powder from my eyebrow kit and the Maybelline Dream Sun Bronzer. This combo gives me a good sharp line for my contour. Together this comes to just above £10 for sculpting. For highlight I used the MUA Skin Shimmer which was £2-3 and it’s great. For my eyebrows I use the MUA ProBrow Eyebrow Kit which retails for £4 and there is an angled brush included. I however use my Real Techniques Brow Brush instead.

M A S C A R A

This mascara is one I never hear anyone speak about and this is the Astor Pure Seduction Codes. The wand one this mascara is great and really gives volume and length. I got mine for £4 from my local charity shop and I’ve bought it twice this year within the past 4 ish months.

E Y E L I N E R

Again, this is another product I don’t hear spoken about very often and this is the Lord and Berry Eyeliner in #111 Forever Black. This eyeliner is a little bit of a love / hate relationship because the formulation does become quite crusty almost after a while and doesn’t tend to stay as long. This retails for £15 and I got mine in a LoveMeBeauty subscription box!

That is everything for my daily makeup routine! this post was published earlier and I hadn’t even finished writing it so I do apologise for that!

Speak tomorrow for post 5!

The Versatile Blogger Award | Blogmas Days 2 & 3

Welcome back everyone! I apologise for this having to be my post for Blogmas days 2 AND 3 – I honestly had no idea what to write about to interest you guys.

Recently, my lovely fellow blogger friend Rachel posted a blog about the Versatile Blogger Award and nominated me which was so kind of her! Today for Blogmas post 3 (technically 2 and 3) I am going to be doing this little tag! So –

The Rules:

  1. Thank the person that nominated you & include a link to their blog. ☑️
  2. Nominate at least 15 blogs of your choice… If you can. ☑️
  3. Link your nominees and let them know of your nomination.  ☑️
  4. Share 7 facts about yourself.  ☑️

versatile-blogger-award.jpg

So as mentioned Rachel nominated myself and a few other bloggers for this award which again is so lovely of her so thank you so much Rachel! Now I personally won’t be able to come up with 15 different blogs so I’ll give you a few of my favourites –

7 Facts About Me –

  1. I’ve been to London a few times with family and once with friends and also to Disneyland Paris  with my high school for a ‘science’ trip which really wasn’t science related at all!
  2. I’ve been watching The X Factor since 2006 when Leona Lewis won and have watched every year since then. I started watching this year and when it came to the live shows I stopped purely because of Honey G because my family and I think she seriously ruined the show but as of writing this post I’m watching the Christmas Week!
  3. The previous fact leads me on to my next fact and that is I quite happily go all out with Christmas but I’m not a maniac when it comes down to it. I love getting all festive with Costa festive drinks, festive Christmas shows, festive decorations, and fairy lights and putting my little Christmas tree up in my room! (I’ve made it snow on my blog too and that makes me very happy)
  4. In the past few years, I have seen a total of 11 different musicals and two of those being Wicked in London and Manchester. I’m quite obsessed and I’d LOVE to go and see Phantom of the Opera in London with my dad along with Les Miserables!
  5. This next fact is something I’m still shocked about, but my family and I are going to live in Australia next summer for a year or two and I’ve never been more excited to live somewhere because I’ve spent 15 years of my life in the same little town in North Wales and there’s so much more out there and this is such an amazing opportunity for myself and my family!
  6. I have been doing YouTube videos for around 3 years now but since being partnered with StyleHaul 2 years ago, I’ve calmed my videos down due to StyleHaul being such a bad network for me to be partnered to. As soon as I have my braces on and have been unlinked from StyleHaul, I will be back doing videos because its such a creative thing for me to do and links in with my college course too.
  7. And the final most obvious fact I can come up with is that I am having my braces on next week on Tuesday and its safe to say I’m quite nervous because I have feeling I know its going to cause me lots of ache having them tightened!

Thank you all so much for reading!

A Letter To My College Friends – 20/11/16

Dear friends,

Its currently midnight and instead of sleeping, I’m writing this…. whilst listening to a sad playlist on Spotify… Oops

I can’t begin to explain how grateful I am for each and every one of you.

Before college, high school life was shit. (We are yet to have a heart to heart about this) High school was full of bullshit, liars, arguments and two faced people. The environment is different in college… from the tutors to the students to the layout of the college altogether.

The thing that stands out however, is the attitude and ways of the people around me who alter my day to day life…

Without any of you I’d probably be alone (as sad as it sounds) and feeling lost. You all know I have a few other friends in the college from my high school and don’t get me wrong, they’re great and supportive every step of the way. Coming into the MPJ course has seriously had an impact on me and the person I am.

I’m really not sure what else to say.

Thank you for everything you’ve all done for me the past couple of months, and thank you for an amazing friendship I’ll be able to forever cherish. Thank you for contributing to who I am now. Thank you for all attempting to cheer me up when I’m feeling down and crappy.

Time is a crazy thing and will always continue to baffle me.

You’re all amazing people. Lots of love ♡

~ Abi

(I’ll probably also get in trouble for not mentioning Craig & Joe – so thank you both for believing in all of us.)

My Sudden Love for Coffee

Hello friends,

In the past week I have found myself to be a sudden coffee lover. My wonderful college friends can back me up with this because I have never (I repeated never) been a coffee drinker.

I always found the smell  extremely appealing but I never liked the taste because of that odd aftertaste you get. (Just me?)

So this is probably the strangest post you’ll ever read but I’ll give you the story anyway.

So last week we had a new girl called Melissa join our class and she was lovely! Thankfully she’s come over to my ‘half’ of the class to my little friendship group and she’s settled right in.

So last week on her first or second day, we went into the Costa in the college and Mel ordered a Caramel Coffee Cooler. She didn’t like it much so I voluntarily decided to have it. I think because I’m a very frequent tea drinker, the coffee must have been a shock to my system.

If you have ever seen Over the Hedge, you’ll know the hamster on there gets very hyped off energy drinks and goes absolutely mental. This is pretty much a good comparison to how I reacted to the coffee. My legs couldn’t stop shaking and I was getting very giddy.

So.

Conclusion.

Don’t give me cold coffee. It’s currently 4.20pm and  I’m on my third cup of coffee of the day so I probably won’t sleep tonight.. ah well.
Just want to give a quick shoutout to the lovely bunch of people who have recently added me to a lovely facebook group so I can connect with different bloggers and interact with new people.

I said I was going to post this at 6pm but I’m changing my mind and I will post it as soon as I finish writing.

Thankyou all so much for reading and following my blog!

I’ll speak to you next week.

🙂

My Winter Essentials 2016

Hello everyone,

Over the past few days the weather has become ridiculously cold all of a sudden here in the UK. There are people like me who are picky with the weather when it comes to the temperature. For example – if its too cold, it annoys me and makes me grumpy and I don’t love it. I like it to be semi cold. Not really really cold, but; somewhere in the 15s. Yes. 15 degrees.

Anyway. Today I want to share with you a few of my winter essentials which are absolutely necessary during the change from October to December.

The first one – of course, is a lovely warm cup of tea. Now, there are lots of different types of tea out there but I like to be very original and have a nice cup of Tetley’s. You can’t really go wrong in all honesty. And make sure you make it properly, the right way in the right order of steps. Tell me how you make your cup of tea in the comments. Let’s see who’s really doing it properly.

The next essential is a little bit odd but when you read ahead you’ll understand why.

I am asthmatic (not majorly, don’t worry I won’t collapse on you), therefore I have to now start getting my flu jab. I also had this done last year as I found out I was asthmatic back then. In previous years I have found myself feeling absolutely rock bottom with colds and flu’s and viruses etc. Therefore having my flu jab done is an absolute necessity.

It may be a little odd for some people, but I promise it makes the cold and flu season much easier so you avoid getting ill.

My next essential is something I’ve not actually managed to get yet, and that is a scarf. I’m hoping to visit Primark within the next few days to go and get myself one. If I can’t find one in Primark I’ll end up in New Look and there is one in there I do quite like. Its navy blue and has white and red and black combined into it, but Primark ones are much more affordable.

After Bonfire Night for me, it means Christmas  is drawing nearer and we can finally start getting excited for it. During the winter months leading up to Christmas, I absolutely love to get fairy lights. I currently have a multicoloured pack in my room waiting to go on my little Christmas tree, and I also have some purple / pink fairy lights trailing around my bed cupboards. I love coming home and making my room feel cosy and warm just so I can block out the cold for a little while and concentrate on warming up.

Those are all my current essentials for Winter and I’ll be sure to do an updated one in about a month or so to see if I have any more (which I definitely will). As I said earlier on in the post, let me know how you make a cup of tea. Which way is the right way to make a cup of tea? We’ll find out! ?

Thank you all very much for reading and if you want to hear of my updated winter essentials in a few weeks – a month, don’t forget to follow my blog and join my little family 🙂

Much love,

Abi x

The Daily Face – 29th April

Hello everyone!

So I’ve kept these products aside so I could write this post for you! I used to do everyday makeup looks on YouTube (which can be found here)

Today I’m showing you what I wore on my face to school – and today wasn’t really the best of days for me so I decided to go simple purely because of the fact I felt as sick as a dog and was very dizzy all morning.

The first product I used was the Nivea Men’s Post Shave Balm for sensitive skin. This product is amazing, and if it wasn’t for NikkiTutorials, this product wouldn’t have even been thought about for being used as a primer.

20160429_204744I personally absolutely love this primer, and it contains glycerin, meaning your makeup is guaranteed to stay on all day. Glycerin is the main factor in a regular primer. I use my hands and use circular motions to apply this primer, and I wait till it gets tacky. Then as soon as it gets tacky, this is when I go in with concealer.

Last weekend I fell in love with a concealer and couldn’t resist buying it. This is the Mac Prolong Wear Concealer, and because I’m as pale as a ghost, I bought the lightest tone type with the lightest shade which is NW15.

20160429_204820 At first I was very optimistic but very nervous to spend so much money on a concealer, but it was definitely worth it. It’s so highlighting and really stays on all day with hardly any creasing. It made me feel a little bit better for spending £17.50!

Next on top of my spots, I did a little mixture which consisted of the Prolong Wear and the Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer. Unfortunately I took a really bad photo of it but here it is –

20160429_204850 This concealer however, is such a pain in the neck to find the right shade because the light shade was too orange on me, and even this one is really not the best tone on me. Under my eyes I find this is definitely too orange, and it just sets weird, so I prefer to use it on my spots instead. If I don’t use this, its the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer which is everyone’s number one favourite just because of how long it lasts and the fact it doesn’t sink into your pores makes life so much better.

To set all of this in place, I used my Stay Matte powder by Rimmel in the shade 001 transparent. I personally get a very shiny nose throughout the day and i have no idea why but I think my skin is an oily / dry / normal combination and sometimes it is very sensitive (but thats a blog for another day 😉 )

(The picture won’t load for the powder, I’ll try and insert it tomorrow)

Finally I applied brows and mascara using two of my all time favourite products. The mascara on the right is the dupe for the Benefit Rollerlash which is the Maybelline Lash Sensational. I prefer to use this mascara when it’s slightly dried out a little bit. The product really extends your lashes and seperates them really well!

The product I used for my brows was the MUA Pro Brow Eyebrow Kit. This is only £4 from Superdrug and I highly  recommend it, it has amazing pigmentation and the brush is actually decent!

So that was my daily face of makeup! If you have any blog posts you would like to see, pop a comment down below and let me know what some of your favourite make-up products are!

If someone today gives you grief, smile at them because it’ll drive them up the wall

Have a wonderful day

xx
