About two weeks ago, my family and I saw Bohemian Rhapsody for the very first time, and it’s fair to say it took our breaths away. Throughout the entire film, I was amazed at not only the person Freddie was but the entire band and the casting of the roles as well as the accuracy, and how on point the casting team managed to cast Freddie, and especially Brian. The accuracy was just faultless.
Queen is a band I grew up listening to and have known the words to Bohemian Rhapsody for as long as I can remember. Car journeys were the best!
I think one of the most special things to me about this film was the detail and the fullness the directing, casting, musical and other teams went to, to create such a beautiful film.
One of the things I wish I had known when I was growing up was that Freddie was no longer with us. I remember very briefly and vaguely learning Freddie wasn’t alive anymore. My heart sort of sunk. I hadn’t known anything about AIDs or what they were or what it was that took him away so early, but seeing how he suffered in Bohemian Rhapsody was eye-opening. I’m glad that my family and I got to watch it together, and also that my younger brother (who may I add is 10) got to understand and see what Freddie’s life was like when he was suffering.
Throughout the movie, we see a true depiction of what Freddie’s life was like. Through relationships, his parents, friendships, we see it all, and just how special those moments were but also how hard they were too. Seeing his relationship with Mary, to briefly seeing his relationship with Jim, this movie and the directors and team captured everything perfectly.
When movies like this are created, especially when they focus on someone no longer living, the entire cast deserves every award they can get. My hat goes off especially to Rami Malek – who actually just won an Oscar for best actor!
This is a movie I think you have to see yourself to understand the complete awesomeness of this film and try and compile the words to describe it. It’s not easy! If you do however choose to watch this film with family and have younger siblings like I do, please be aware you do see scenes that aren’t for younger eyes such as Freddie just about to finish/start having sex with his fiancee and also throws the odd curse word in every now and then. Just a few things you might want to be wary of.
The music is another thing that is just exceptional. There are no words other than fricking awesome that describe the music in this movie. It’s awesome to hear all of the classics and all of those songs that were chart toppers. When you watch this movie you get to see how the songs were created and Freddie just sitting down at the piano and writing away. Watching how We Will Rock You was made was one of my favourite things too! The entire band are and were musical geniuses and this film is another reason for me to tell people why Queen is one of my favourite bands.
What did you think of Bohemian Rhapsody?
Let me know!
